‘Happiness’ forum at IBTE

From both Islamic and social perspectives, it is vital for men to adhere to the boundaries set by the Syariah law.

This was said by officer at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Salmah binti Haji Ahmad in addressing 100 students from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) during the ‘Communi-Kasih: Communication is the Key to Happiness’ forum by PREPanita.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Community Development Department as well as various government and non-government agencies.

The panel comprised Salmah binti Haji Ahmad from the Family Counselling Service Division at the MoRA, Head of Women and Child Abuse Investigation Unit at the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) DSP Norkhatijah binti Haji Zainal, Suri Seri Begawan Hospital’s medical welfare officer Hajah Hadzilahwatie binti Haji Abdul Hamid and Women and Girls Development Enterprise founder Dayang Nur Judy binti Abdullah.

DSP Norkhatijah shared real-life cases of women facing abuse and discussed the actions that can be taken when confronted with violence or threats, while Hajah Hadzilahwatie shed lights on challenging cases handled by the hospital’s Medical Welfare Division, including instances of childbirth before marriage.

The next forum in the series is scheduled to take place at IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus on September 20. – James Kon
