HANOI (XINHUA) – The Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi recorded 2,010 dengue fever cases over the past week in 29 districts, doubling the number reported in the final week of August, according to the city’s centre for disease control yesterday.
Hanoi has also reported 72 more dengue fever hot spots in a week, with the largest hot spots detected in the districts of Phu Xuyen, Hoang Mai, Cau Giay, and Ha Dong.
Since early this year, the city has reported 10,372 dengue fever cases, four times higher than the same period last year, including three fatalities.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has sent experts to assist Hanoi in dengue fever prevention and control tasks, while environment clean-up campaigns are ongoing in different localities in the national capital, the local newspaper Vietnam News reported.
According to the Health Ministry, Vietnam reported an additional 5,180 dengue fever cases from September 8 to 15, which increased the total infections nationwide to 81,808, including 23 deaths.
The number of infection cases is predicted to be on the rise, especially during the peak rainy season, the Health Ministry said.
