Halal certification seized over use of pig bristle brushes

The Halal Certification of a business establishment was confiscated after it was found using three unbranded brushes made from pig bristles.

Enforcement officers of the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department conducted an operation at the business establishment in Kampong Lambak, Jalan Berakas on Wednesday following information about the use of the brushes made from pig bristles.

The establishment was ordered to carry out cleansing activities at the food processing place and dispose all contaminated food.

The case was investigated under Section 37 of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) reminded owners, managers, operators, traders, suppliers and importers of products and consumer goods to be vigilant and sensitive to imported products and consumer goods sold to the public at supermarkets or shops by ensuring that halal products are not mixed with non-halal ones.

The ministry said this is to protect the Muslim community in the country from using non-halal products.

The public can contact the Syariah Affairs Department through the Halal Food Control Division on 716 6222 or any office of the Halal Food Control Division in any district to lodge a complaint or share information about the sale of non-halal products openly in business places. – Azlan Othman
