Gunners emerged champions in the men’s category of the Brunei Fastpitch Softball Open 2023 after a closely-fought 1-0 win against Black Arrows 1 in the final at the Berakas Sports Complex yesterday.
The decisive point came in the seventh inning following an accurate hit from Pengiran Musa bin Pengiran Haji Jaafar.
With Gunners having two runners on the second and third bases, Pengiran Musa landed the crucial hit to the right of the field, subsequently earning the victory after scoring two runs.
The encounter proved to be a close call between both teams as opposing pitchers performed resolutely with strong throws and did not let batters on base.
Wanderers claimed the bronze medal in the six-member tournament. Other participating men’s teams included YG Outlaws, Black Arrows 2, and All Stars.
Meanwhile, BA Diamonds emerged winners in the ladies’ category following a 5-0 win over Pasadena in the title decider.
Third place went to Divas while Retro finished fourth.
Brunei Amateur Softball and Baseball Association (BASBA) President Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Abdul Aziz presented the prizes. – Fadhil Yunus
