Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) is committed to supporting Brunei’s journey towards achieving the sustainable development goals and realising Brunei Vision 2035 vision. In alignment with the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy, UTB is focusing on electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy as key strategies, said UTB’s Director of Centre for Transport Research Dr Hajah Wida Susanty binti Haji Suhaili.
She said this during the signing ceremony to establish key partnerships with Berjaya Sdn Bhd and Han S L Sdn Bhd yesterday at the university’s Pearl building. The event featured the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between UTB and Berjaya for a collaborative research project on the feasibility of a solar PV powered EV charging station. The project aims to explore the use of solar energy for EV charging infrastructure in the country.
In the agreement, Berjaya will provide a NETA EV for the research, enabling UTB researchers to assess the viability of solar-powered EV charging systems.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed to expand collaborations with Han S L, establishing a framework for ongoing collaboration in research, education, and training, particularly in engineering, technology and EV infrastructure. Dr Hajah Wida Susanty, in her welcoming remarks, said, “The partnerships will benefit and enrich the educational diversity, progress and innovation experienced by our staff and students.
“The joint efforts of our academic staff in research collaboration initiatives and publication activities will ensure inclusive and quality education for all.”
The EV, on loan from Berjaya and the charger donation from Han S L, “are invaluable resources for our ongoing projects. These collaborations will strengthen our research capabilities but also underscore UTB’s dedication to fostering sustainability and innovation”.
