Chong Chee Soon emerged as the grand prize winner of the Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Aspirasi 4 Rewards Campaign, taking home BND250,000.
The 32-year-old had been setting aside a few hundred dollars every month into BIBD Aspirasi in savings.
In an interview, Chong Chee Soon said he felt blessed and thankful for being the winner and was shocked when he saw his name on the screen.
He hopes to bring his family on a holiday and give them gifts and also to start his own business.
He said BIBD Aspirasi is a good initiative to encourage people to save and recommended the programme to his family and friends.
Five quarterly winners also walked away with BND10,000 each and 10 monthly winners were each rewarded with BND1,000.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II and Chairman of BIBD Board of Directors Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, presented the prize.
BIBD Aspirasi was introduced in 2018 in support of Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) objective to promote financial management skills, and nurture financial literacy and savings amongst Bruneians.
The number of subscribers for the programme continues to grow exponentially and over the course of the year 2022, BIBD Aspirasi 4 campaign has awarded 441 winners with cash prizes.
BIBD launched its Aspirasi 5 campaign in December last year with cash prizes totalling BND870,000 over the coming year and now has increased the maximum deposit amount to BND450,000 while maintaining the minimum deposit from as low as BND50 to enable everyone to be part of the programme.
The latest iteration of BIBD Aspirasi shares the story of a youth advocate and community leader Haji Muhammad Iqbal Fakhri bin Haji Damit who was recently announced as the ASEAN Prize 2022 recipient.
Muhammad Iqbal Fakhri is of the view that it is important for youth to be financially disciplined which can encourage them to save and achieve their goals as well as contribute to the society.
