Graduates share secrets to their success

Hard work paid off for 28 graduates from Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah who received their diploma in ‘Aliyah Qira’at at the International Convention Centre, Berakas yesterday.

Of the graduates, 15 received Mumtaz (excellent), 10 Jayyid Jiddan (very good), one Jayyid (good) and two Maqbul (pass) grades.

A graduate, Awangku Muhd Haziq bin Pengiran Haji Bakar, said efforts, determination, tawakkal (trust in Allah the Almighty’s plans) and prayers from parents are ingredients to his success.

“I am delighted by my achievement. Not all students can pursue this course and we tried our best to complete the programme. I want to thank my parents and lecturers for motivating me,” he said, adding that he plans on continuing ‘Aliyah Qira’at studies at undergraduate level.

Another graduate, Nabiha binti Mohammad Nizam, said she is set to further her studies in Egypt, joined by five other peers. “This course was challenging, particularly in memorising Al-Quran, revision and conducting activities. However, with support from fellow students, lecturers and parents, I was able to do it. Completing the programme and celebrating the graduation gives rise to mixed feelings as it also means saying goodbye to my classmates,” she said. Mohd Faris Zayani bin Muhammad Firdausil Amin said memorising Al-Quran is a challenge but with efforts, it can come to fruition. He plans to pursue degree in Usuluddin at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali.

The institute was established with consent from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in honour of the monarch’s 46th birthday in 1992.

The institute was officiated on January 1, 1993 with the first intake of 45 students.

It offers secondary and diploma levels of education combining Al-Quran memorisation and other subjects. The ‘Aliyah Qira’at Diploma programme was established in August 2010. – Azlan Othman
