The 44th ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters (ASOD) meeting was held via video conference from July 5 to 7.
The meeting was attended by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Director Dato Paduka Mohd Zalani bin Haji Ismail as the head of the delegation and senior officers from the NCB.
Myanmar Deputy Minister of Home Affairs cum Secretary of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) Major General Zin Min Htet attended the video conference as guest of honour who inaugurated the 44th ASOD meeting.
ASOD meeting served as a platform for ASEAN member states to discuss and exchange information on the current drug situation and drug trends as well as the effort and measures implemented in combatting illicit drug abuse and trafficking. The meeting also discussed capacity building for member countries in improving their capabilities and expertise in dealing with the increasingly complex and evolving nature of drug trafficking in the region.
The meeting underlined ASEAN’s commitment to supporting zero-tolerance approach against drugs in realising ASEAN’s aspiration of a drug-free region. ASOD consultation with dialogue partners which saw 8th ASOD + China Consultation, 9th ASOD + Korea, 16th ASOD + 3 Consultation, 5th ASOD + Russia Consultation and 6th ASOD + India Consultation were also held back-to-back to the 44th ASOD Meeting to further strengthen the cooperation and collaboration effort tackling drug menace.
