Around 40 scout members from the Sambas District Scout Movement (Gerakan Pramuka Kwartir Cabang Sambas), Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia, continued their goodwill journey in Brunei, with a stop in the Belait District.
The contingent, led by Samarudin Abed Sutih, arrived in Kuala Belait on the evening of December 30 and stayed at a scout member’s residence in Sungai Liang. That evening, they participated in a cultural exchange event titled ‘Malam Jalinan Mesra’.
The scouts visited the Billionth Barrel Monument in Seria and the Belait District Museum yesterday, where they explored the district’s history, culture, and traditions.
Later, the contingent proceeded to the headquarters of the Belait District Scouts Association (PPDB), where they were warmly welcomed by Belait District Scouts Commissioner Mohamad Hatta bin Haji Suhaili. Also present were members of the Baden Powell (BP) Guild from the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD), led by their coordinator Beelie bin Tengah.
In his speech, Mohamad Hatta shared the history of scouting in the Belait District and the various scout groups formed under the movement. He expressed delight in hosting one of the largest visiting contingents in recent years, emphasising the value of fostering ties through shared scouting experiences.
The event included an exchange of tokens of appreciation between the leaders of the contingent, the PPDB, and the BP Guild to commemorate the visit.
Prior to their stop in the Belait District, the delegation visited the PPNBD headquarters, where they learnt about the association’s history, achievements, and programmes. They also engaged in a cultural exchange programme celebrating shared heritage and the scouting spirit.
After performing midday prayers, the delegation left for Miri, Sarawak, via the Sungai Tujoh Control Post, continuing their goodwill tour. – Daniel Lim
