Taking a photo with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was a wish come true for 13-year-old Aisy Nur Delilah when she was granted the golden opportunity to do so when the monarch visited Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School yesterday.
She, along with fellow schoolmates, were in the assembly area waving at His Majesty during the end of the visit when the monarch called out to the students. Aisy Nur Delilah took the chance and made her way through the crowd of students and teachers to have her photo taken with the monarch.
Beaming, she shared her excitement with the Sunday Bulletin.
She said it was among her wishes when she first heard His Majesty was visiting her school.
“I am so happy, and I can’t wait to show the photo to my parents and my siblings. Junjung Kasih, Your Majesty, for giving me this memorable moment, something I can reminisce on.”
Meeting royalty was also an unforgettable experience for school army cadets Sergeant Md Habib Hakimi bin Haji Mustapa, 16, and Lance Corporal Md Hafeez Qusyairi bin Haji Mustapa, 14.
Md Hafeez Qusyairi, as the parade leader, had the honour to introduce the school’s army cadets to His Majesty.
“We had two weeks of rehearsals, and at one point, I almost gave up, doubting my confidence and fearing I would stumble over my words. But with encouragement from my teachers and parents, I decided that I had to go through with it,” he said.
Md Habib Hakimi said he nearly missed the event due to a trip to the emergency room the night before for abdominal pain.
“Alhamdulillah, after receiving medical treatment, I was able to fulfil my duty alongside my fellow cadets, and even had the chance to meet and take a photo with His Majesty,” he said.
