Golden moment for Brunei athletes

Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation (BDAF) President Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu’min yesterday morning attended a meet and greet session with six athletes and two officials heading to the 15th Southeast Asian Youth Championships at National Athletics Centre in Pathumthani Province, Thailand from December 7 to 9.

Held at the conference room of Sports School, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu’min also congratulated medallists who have returned from the recent Sibu Open Championship and Rs Kinabalu Athletic League Championship 2023.

Nine athletes represented the country in the Sibu Open Championship and won five medals. Firdaus Ar Rasyid participating in the 100 metres (m) and 200m events, won two gold medals, Maziah Mahussin won a silver medial in the 100m event, while Brunei athletic team ‘A’ won silver, and Brunei athletic team ‘B’ won bronze in the 4x100m event.

Meanwhile, in the RS Kinabalu Athletics League Championship 2023, the Brunei team won two gold medals in the 1,500m event for under the age of 15 with Md Arif Danial bin Eddy Norisham setting a time of 4:42.0s and Nur Asyura binti Haji Rosli setting a time of 2:39.83s in the women’s open 800m.

The team also won three silver medals: Ruzaini bin Mahadi with a time of 17:01.41s in the men’s 5,000m open event; Siti Nur Hafizatul Shazana binti Hamiroldzam in the women’s 5,000m open event with 22:10.43s, beating her previous national record set at the Tuaran Open Championship; and Nur Asyura binti Haji Rosli won second place in the 1,500m event with a time of 5:40.0s.

Meanwhile, Noramallina binti Haji Bohari won bronze in the 800m event with a time of 2:55.15s in the women’s open category.  – James Kon
