Global seminar highlights Islam’s role in progress

A delegation from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), led by Rector Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, attended the annual ICON IMAD XIII 2024 seminar in Thailand.

The seminar featured a keynote presentation from UNISSA Professor Dato’ Dr Mohd Fakhrudin bin Abdul Mukti on ‘Tracing the Thoughts of Nusantara Scholars and Their Contributions to the Harmony of Local Communities’. More than 100 papers were presented and UNISSA was announced as the host for ICON IMAD XIV 2025.

The seminar was themed ‘Harmony and Development: The Role of Islam in the Malay World for Peaceful Coexistence and Sustainable Progress’. It was jointly organised by the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Prince of Songkla University, Thailand; the Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Malaysia; the Faculty of Usuluddin, UNISSA, Brunei; and the Postgraduate Programme, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Indonesia.

Meanwhile, UNISSA and Al-Azhar alumni from Brunei, Thailand and Malaysia participated in Liqa Mahabbah at Bakkahland Fatoni, Thailand, to strengthen bonds and discuss issues facing the Muslim community. The event included visits to Fatoni University, Maahad al-Bithaat al-Diniyyah in Yala, and Pondok Baba Haji Abdul Aziz in Pattani. – Adib Noor
