Aiding those in need
The Welfare and Community Volunteer Group (KSKK) and Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd Transformation Project Management (TPM) Department jointly organised a charity campaign programme yesterday at the Lumut Community Hall in conjunction with Ramadhan.
The programme titled ‘Sharing Blessings with the Underprivileged’ was led by the Welfare and Community Volunteer Group Chairman Abidin bin Haji Musa accompanied by Brunei LNG TPM representative and Brunei LNG SAP4Hana Programme Manager Kenny Yap.
In a speech, KSKK Chairman Abidin said the programme saw the distribution of food necessities to 30 selected asnaf and underprivileged families from Kampong Lumut I and Kampong Sungai Liang.
“This marks the group’s 16th programme during Ramadhan and is part of an annual initiative held across the four districts.”
He added that the group aimed at assisting 500 individuals this year including asnaf, orphans, new converts, persons with disabilities (OKU) and the less fortunate; through contributions from various collaborating entities, including the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, government agencies, non-governmental organisations, village heads and private donors.
During the contingent’s visit to the Belait District, they handed essential food necessities to 15 recipients residing in Kampong Lumut before heading to the Kampong Sungai Liang Community Hall to hand over food necessities to the rest of the recipients in the area.
Village Head of Kampong Sungai Liang and Acting Village Head of Kampong Lumut III Mohammad Haszrin bin Bagol, and Head of Community and Welfare Bureau at the Village Consultative Council of Kampong Sungai Liang Chai Tze Yun accompanied the delegation.
A similar programme was also held between KSKK and the Expatriate Group of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) employees group on Thursday at Kampong Sungai Mau multi-purpose hall where food necessities were distributed among the less fortunate families in Mukim Bukit Sawat. – Daniel Lim
Orphans receive donations
Some 16 orphans from Kampong Sungai Hanching yesterday received donations at Kampong Sungai Hanching Mosque.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Suyoi bin Haji Osman presented the donations.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by former imam Haji Ambrun bin Haji Awang. The donation ceremony aimed at easing the burden of those in need, especially for the preparation of the upcoming Hair Raya Aidilfitri celebration as well as expressing concern for residents in need. – James Kon
