Give back to the community, award winners told

Education plays a pivotal role in fostering progress and prosperity, said the Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan (Rotary Club BSB) President Daniel Thien during the presentation of awards to the best teachers and students, as well as bursaries to underprivileged students at Rotary House, Fuzhou Shiyyi Association on Sunday.

He emphasised the club’s commitment to ensuring equal access to quality education for all students and urged the awardees to seize opportunities, excel academically and to give back to the community through volunteerism.

Sim Man Ling of Chung Hwa Middle School Bandar Seri Begawan (CHMS BSB), Zurina binti Basri of St Andrew’s School and Gladys Hope Cabigan Balbin of St George’s School received the best teacher award. They were nominated by their schools for outstanding contributions and commitment to excellence in education and support within their school communities.

Meanwhile, the best student award was presented to Poh Ee Fong of CHMS BSB, Chong Wen Jun of St Andrew’s School and Ayan Ahmed Zakai of St George’s School. Schools nominated these students for their impressive academic attainment, participation in extra-curricular activities and support of other students.

The Rotary Club BSB awarded some BND24,000 in bursaries to 12 students from CHMS BSB, St Andrew’s School, St George’s School, Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College and Seri Mulia Sarjana School to support their academic studies.

A special acknowledgment was extended to the donors whose contributions made the bursary programme possible.  – James Kon
