NIBONG TEBAL (ANN/THE STAR) – A six-year-old girl lost her life after reportedly becoming trapped between the legs of a folding table while playing at her home in Taman Seri Putera on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 4.15pm when the victim, identified as Nur Aqifah Humaira Abdullah, was playing alone at the back of the townhouse rented by her mother. Her mother and siblings, who were inside the house, became concerned after noticing the absence of any sound from the back of the home.
Authorities were alerted after a call was made from the hospital regarding the child’s death, prompting police to rush to the scene. A forensic team and investigating officer conducted an examination at the residence to ascertain the circumstances of the tragic event.
The victim’s body has been sent to Parit Buntar Hospital in Perak, where a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad confirmed the incident and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which pertains to child endangerment.
