Gifted students attending science camp in South Korea

Three students and two education officers left the country to participate in the 13th ASEAN+3 Student Camp for the Gifted in Science and the 15th ASEAN+3 Teacher Workshop for the Gifted in Science in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, South Korea from today until December 23.

The three Year 10 students representing the Sultanate are Muhammad Hazim Khairunas Aisy bin Mohd Khairul and Nurin binti Idris from International School Brunei (ISB) and Muhammad Akif Fadli bin Isma-Norfaizal from Jerudong International School (JIS).

Meanwhile, Nurul Syazana binti Haji Ismail, an education officer from Belait Sixth Form Centre, joined the delegation as a mentor while Norhidanajibah binti Haji Tompal from EDGE will serve as an observer and head of delegation.

Nurul Syazana is set to deliver a presentation on competency-based education and her school’s initiative in developing the 21st-Century competency in science education.

This year’s programme, themed ‘Sustainable Science and the Role of Scientists’, aims to bring gifted students in science and technology together to collaborate and showcase skills in a challenging environment.

It will also allow teachers to attend seminars and workshops to further discuss and acquire new ideas through activities set up by ASEAN+3 Center for the Gifted in Science (ACGS).

During the programme, participants will attend activities and sessions, including lectures and participate in cross-country group presentations.

Meanwhile the 15th ASEAN+3 Teacher Workshop for the Gifted in Science aims to enhance teachers’ pedagogical competencies through discussions and idea-sharing on global education issues, in-depth practical learning on science inquiry kits and a visit a school in Seoul. – Adib Noor
