Get your umbrellas ready

Brunei Darussalam is expected to experience active weather conditions in the coming days due to the convergence of two different wind directions over the region. This atmospheric phenomenon will create moist conditions, enhancing the development of rain clouds, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department in a press release

Starting today, Wednesday (15th May 2024) until Sunday (19th May 2024), the country anticipates occasional heavy and thundery showers, affecting many areas. Wind speeds may reach up to 45 km/h during these heavy or thundery showers.

Over Brunei waters, the sea state is generally slight, with wave heights ranging between 0.3 and 0.6 meters.

Currently, Brunei Darussalam is in the inter-monsoon period. During this time, the weather is influenced by local wind effects, typically resulting in showers or thundershowers over inland areas in the afternoon, spreading to coastal and sea areas at night and sometimes extending into the early morning of the following day.

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary measures in light of the forecasted active weather conditions. Flash floods are possible, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as near riverbanks during continuous heavy rain and high tide. There is also a risk of landslides and fallen trees during heavy showers and gusty conditions.

The public, road users, and fishermen are urged to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts, advisories, and warnings issued by the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department. Necessary actions should be taken to ensure safety.
