Five members of the ASEAN Friendship Group of Deutscher Bundestag (Parliament of Germany) visited Tutong District on Sunday. They were on an official visit to Brunei Darussalam from March 2-5.
The field trip enabled the delegation to learn about Brunei’s biodiversity during a hike in the rainforest, accompanied by ASEAN Biodiversity Hero 2017 and mentor for the Homestay Alai Gayoh Anak Pulau (HAGAP) Management Eyad Samhan bin Nyawa and Professor Ulmar Grafe from Universiti Brunei Darussalam. German Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Gerda Winkler and Eyad Samhan each planted an agarwood tree (Aquilaria beccarania) to mark the visit.
The delegation spent the afternoon with Dusun community members at the HAGAP on Bukit Udal, built by Dusun elder Benson in 2010. The homestay is located on a lagoon overseeing Bukit Udal’s scenic greeneries.
The village head joined the delegation for a traditional lunch with ambuyat.
A visit to a traditional sago factory, Perusahaan Sago in Kampong Ukong, concluded the trip.
