Vendors offering a wide selection of food and beverages commenced operations in the annual Gerai Ramadhan as Muslims began fasting.
Crowds started to fill up the streets as scores of people were seen carrying bags filled with a variety of local and Western food as well as flavoured drinks.
From local delights to Western specialties, the Gerai Ramadhan offers a plethora of options for Muslims to break their fast.
The Bulletin caught up with a visitor Haneef Haji Shahminan who was looking to prepare a sumptuous meal for iftar.
He said, “I was planning to get noodles cooked on a wok and drinks like air jagung and cendol just to get that refreshing taste.”
One of the popular participating stalls feature live cooking demonstrations as orders piled up illustrating the demand from visitors.
Meanwhile, Siti Aminah and her group of friends initially came to the Gerai Ramadhan to browse for food before opting to go for local favourites such as roti john and kebab.
A visitor wishing to be known as Adam, looking to satisfy his cravings for barbecued food, ordered a generous portion of sotong bakar.
Renowned food eateries that have branches all around the country also set up stalls, though it is the smaller enterprises that have grabbed more attention. – Fadhil Yunus
