    Generosity, unity shine at Aidiladha celebrations

    Ministry of Religious Affairs

    The Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) yesterday held a korban ceremony at the Religious Activity House (RAH) in Kampong Bebuloh, Mukim Pengkalan Batu.

    The ceremony, jointly organised by the Policy and Strategic Division, Building and Maintenance Division, and the Public Relations, International and MABIMS Division at the MoRA, saw four cattle and five goats sacrificed.

    The korban meat was distributed to 70 poor and destitute recipients and 66 Muslim converts in Mukim Pengkalan Batu.

    Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and spouse Datin Hajah Nahriah binti Haji Awang Asbi joined the cutting of korban meat, along with RAH committee members.

    Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan and spouse Datin Hajah Norazimah binti Haji Ramlee, and Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim and spouse Hajah Siti Norishan binti Haji Abdul Gafor were also present. – Azlan Othman

    Ministry of Education

    The Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday held a korban ceremony at Rimba III Primary School hall.

    The event, organised by the MoE’s Department of Planning and Estate Management and the Department of Private Education, saw seven buffaloes sacrificed, contributed by the participation of 49 officers, staff of the MoE as well as their family members.

    Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh was the guest of honour and presented the korban meat to 92 recipients, comprising of students from Rimba I, Rimba II and Rimba III primary schools.

    The event commenced with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah by Religious Teacher Grade II from Rimba lll Primary School Mohammad bin Haji Tahir.

    A special talk on ‘Benefits of the month of Zulhijjah’ by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali lecturer Professor Dato’ Dr Haji Zulkifly bin Haji Muda was also held.

    The annual event aims to enliven the important days of Islam and provides an opportunity for the ministry to engage in charity as a sign of obedience and gratitude for blessings bestowed by Allah the Almighty. – Azlan Othman

    Ministry of Finance and Economy

    The Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) held its annual korban ceremony yesterday at the MoFE theatre hall.

    Nine buffaloes were sacrificed for the ceremony, with the korban meat distributed to selected poor and needy families by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.

    Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Economy) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid and Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Fiscal) Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani were also present. – Lyna Mohamad

    Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications

    The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) held a korban ceremony yesterday at the MTIC building, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.

    The ceremony, organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD), saw five buffaloes sacrificed, with Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha presenting korban meat to 127 recipients, including the underprivileged from Mukim Berakas ‘A’ and ‘B’, orphans, and MTIC staff.

    The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and takbir Raya by Sufri Bolkiah Mosque, Berakas Imam Haji Mohd Zahid bin Haji Mohd Zain, followed with a lecture on ‘The Sacrificial Ritual from an Islamic Perspective’ by head religious teacher at Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre Haji Ishkandar bin Haji Buntar.

    Permanent Secretary at the MTIC Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications) at the MTIC Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the MTIC Ridzuan bin Haji Ahmad were also present at the event. – Adib Noor

    Ministry of Development

    The Ministry of Development (MoD), through the Public Works Department, the Department of Building Services and Department of Mechanical and Electrical Services, jointly held a korban ceremony at the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi) building, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.

    Three cows were sacrificed for the ceremony, with Permanent Secretary (Infrastructure, Housing and Professional) at the MoD Ir Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria distributing the korban meat to 117 MoD personnel.

    The ceremony saw a special briefing on ‘Menteladani Tarbiyah Keluarga Nabi Ibrahim’ delivered by head of counselling and religious understanding at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Muhammad Yussof bin Haji Abdul Majid.

    Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam

    Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) held a korban event yesterday at the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Mosque in Kampong Mulaut, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.

    Three cows were sacrificed and distributed to some 15 families, comprising of underprivileged members of the community and family members of the BIBD Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future (BIBD ALAF) recipients.

    BIBD also contributed 100 Surah Yaasiin books as waqaf to the mosque.

    Senior Istinbat Officer Hajah Noraini binti Haji Buntar as Deputy Chairman of BIBD Shariah Advisory Body presented the donations.

    The event commenced with the recitation of Doa to initiate the distribution of korban meat and ended with a Doa Selamat led by Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Mosque officer Haji Khairul Nizam bin Haji Mohd Said.

    The celebration highlights the spirit of sharing and willingness to make sacrifices in the name of Allah the Almighty. It is a time for Muslims in the country to share their fortune and wealth with their less-privileged ‘brothers and sisters’, said the bank.

    Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali

    Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), through the Religious and Takmir Surau Unit of the Student Affairs Office, held a korban ceremony on Wednesday at its premises in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.

    UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal was the guest of honour.

    This year, three buffaloes were sacrificed and the meat distributed to the underprivileged in Mukim Keriam, Tutong District as well as the UNISSA community at the event.

    The ceremony also saw a special lecture delivered by assistant professor at UNISSA’s Faculty of Usuluddin Dr Haji Ahmad Baha bin Haji Mokhtar.

    The annual event aimed to provide an opportunity for everyone to perform the sacrificial ritual and strengthen the bonds among members of the UNISSA community. – Adib Noor

    Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Wakeel Mosque

    Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Wakeel Mosque takmir committee and congregation held a korban ceremony yesterday at its premises in Kampong Kiudang.

    Ten buffaloes were sacrificed and the korban meat distributed to some 51 poor and needy families from five villages around the area.

    Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Aziyan bin Abdullah as the guest of honour, distributed the meat, along with Mukim Lamunin penghulu Mohd Jaafar bin Haji Tinggal; Kampong Kiudang and Padnunok village head Muhammad Rifaie bin Haji Abdul Rahim; and acting Kampong Pangkalan Mau/Bakiau and Batang Mitus village head Abdul Rahim bin Haji Abdul Hamid. – Lyna Mohamad

    Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque

    Nine buffaloes were sacrificed and distributed to zakat recipients residing in Kampong Manggis/Madang as well as members of the public yesterday at Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque.

    Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, as advisor of the mosque’s takmir committee members, distributed korban meat to the recipients.

    The event began with Zohor prayer, followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by the mosque’s bilal Razman bin Haji Ramlee.

    The event continued with mosque takmir committee advisors Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Dato Paduka Ar Haji Idris bin Haji Abbas, Dato Paduka Haji Said bin Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato Paduka Haji Hasim and other committee members distributing the korban meat to the public. – Azlan Othman
