Gaza humanitarian fund raises BND1.7M

Donations to the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023 reached BND1.7 million as of yesterday morning.

The national committee comprising government agencies recommended the transfer of the first batch of funds to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to alleviate the burdens faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The discussion for the humanitarian fund by National Committee of Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023 was held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Community) at the MCYS Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari chaired the meeting.

Representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), imagine Sdn Bhd, Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd and Progresif Sdn Bhd were present.

Among the discussions were statuses of the humanitarian fund, collection of donations authorised by MoHA or Community Development Department (JAPEM) since the fund was launched on October 18.

The fund is open until January 18, 2024. Donations can be made online through Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) account number 00-001-01-0089051 under the name ‘Tabung Kemanusiaan Rakyat Palestin di Gaza 2023’ or through BIBD QuickPay by scanning QR code on posters and stickers for the fund.

Donation boxes are also available at mosques, suraus and religious halls as well as banks, department stores and public buildings. Donations can also be handed to the humanitarian fund’s secretariat at the second floor at MCYS on Jalan Kebangsaan. – James Kon
