Gaps found in government business continuity plans after major power incidents last year

There were gaps in business continuity plans in government agencies following major power disruptions that occurred last year, said Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof during the 20th session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting yesterday.

The minister was addressing concerns raised by LegCo member Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin whether or not disruptions similar to the incident in June and another in October last year would effect counter services, hospital services and businesses. “Following the incidents, there are still gaps in the business continuity plan (BCP), hence the Department of Electrical Services (DES) is improving countermeasures with BCPs that are more intergrated with other government agencies,” he said.

The long-term plan to address the issue of stable electrical supplies includes the upgrading of DES assets, the minister added. – Azlan Othman
