Fuzhou Shiyyi Association strengthened their grip in second place in Group ‘B’ of the You-C1000 Basketball Cup 2022 after defeating Pegasus in a 78-61 victory at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Court in Batu Bersurat last night.
Pegasus was their immediate rivals in one of the qualifying places, and a win will help their bid to finish second behind group winners TK Tea House. With one game remaining, victory against Fateh Sdh Bhd tomorrow will ensure a runners-up finish regardless of the outcome in Pegasus’s final group match.
Finishing second will be crucial for both sides if they were to avoid a meeting with defending champions and pre-tournament favourites Easyway in the knock-out stage.
While the first quarter appeared to be a close encounter, Fuzhou Shiyyi Association soon pulled away and never looked like conceding their lead.
Fuzhou Shiyyi Association player Lim Liang Wei led his team with 25 points while Ahmad Termizi contributed with 22 points.
The competition continues tomorrow with Fuzhou looking to secure second place against Fateh.
The women’s teams will also be in action in a later tip-off between Propel Services and Trading and GHK.
