Over 120 children under the age of 12 across the Belait District participated in the Regional Under 12 (U12) Grassroots Festival at the Arena Sports Complex in Seria yesterday.
The event, organised by the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) in collaboration with the Belait District Football Association (PBDB), aimed to introduce children to the sport.
Participant Mohd Rayyan Daniel bin Zayadi, in an interview with the Bulletin, said it was his first time participating in such an event.
He said he was able to quickly learn new skills and looked forward to putting the skills to good use.
Another participant Zhafran Adrian bin Mohd Rozaidi said, “I learnt to play football and made new friends.”
FABD Vice President Haji Mahrub bin Haji Murni oversaw the festival, where the participants were split into groups, led by their coaches.
Several other competitions, such as juggling, were also held. The FABD and the PBDB hoped that the event scouted potential football talents.
FABD also plans to host similar events across the Sultanate in the near future. – Daniel Lim
