Fun run set to promote 19th Asian Games

The public has been invited to join the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Fun Run organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNC) supported by the Youth and Sports Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) on March 12 at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.

The event is split into five categories: Category 1 – 3.4-kilometre (km) male open; Category 2 – 3.4km female open; Category 3 – 2km for boys aged 12 and below; Category 4 – 2km for girls aged 12 and below; and Category 5 – 2km for people with disabilities.

Registered participants will receive free Asian Games Fun Run Commemorative T-shirt which can be collected on March 11 at the Youth and Sports Department.

The Asian Games fun run certificates will be given to participants at the finish line on the day of the fun run.

Top 10 finishers in each category will receive a medal commemorating the fun run presented by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of BDNC.

For the comfort of all participants including children and people with disabilities, the drop-off point is at the parking lot of the Department of Electrical Services, opposite the PGGMB building.

Participants are advised to arrive at the drop-off point at 6.15am and working committee staff will be on stand-by to assist and guide participants to the venue.

Members of the public can register for the fun run at the Youth and Sports Department on the sixth floor of the Sports Section of the MCYS building.

Registration is open on March 4 and from March 6 to 9, from 8am to 11.30am and 2pm to 4pm. The 19th Asian Games, is expected to be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.

With only seven months remaining, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), in conjunction with the Asian Games, has been promoting the multi-sport event via fun run series in all five zones, with Southeast Asian countries scheduled in February and March. Representatives from the OCA and 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 will also be attending the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Fun Run event in the Sultanate.

The event aims to invest in the younger generation in Asian countries to improve society and sports in the region, to foster awareness among the societies of Asia and to encourage participation in sporting and cultural activities while fostering unity in the community.
