Fun-filled camp for cancer survivors

Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) had their 9th Childhood Cancer Survivor Camp sponsored by AIA Brunei at Bintudoh Green Spring Resort, Lamunin.

The three-day-two-night camp saw 55 participants, including volunteers, cancer survivors and staff from Occupational Therapy, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.

The camp aimed to share experiences among the survivors while providing an outlet to boost their confidence and to socialise.

The activities saw AIA representatives participating on the first day of camp.

Senior occupational therapist at the Ministry of Health Siti Farida binti Shahar said for any YASKA activities, OPCT will participate with volunteers for such activities and events are handpicked.

AIA Brunei General Manager Kenneth Ling said, “We first got to know about YASKA in 2021 through Jab Gym’s one year anniversary charity gala dinner where we donated towards YASKA’s reading and play area at the children’s cancer ward in RIPAS Hospital. In line with our brand promise of helping people live healthier, longer and better lives, we continued our initiative to support YASKA yearly and this year, we are honoured to sponsor their ninth cancer survivors camp.”

The camp also aimed to provide fun activities; bonding among survivors; offer them courage, motivation and emotional strength and respite for families. It also encouraged survivors to explore their capabilities, achieve their best potential; develop leadership skills and assist the youth, who successfully battled cancer, learn about themselves and at the same time work with others and engage in meaningful actions; and to make available exciting activities and allow opportunities to make new friends.
