Fu Zhou Shiyyi Association advanced to the quarterfinals of the You-C1000 Basketball Cup 2022 as Group ‘B’ runners-up following an enthralling 94-85 victory over Fateh Sdn Bhd at the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) Court in Batu Bersurat on Friday night.
The team joins Easyway and Group ‘B’ winners TK Tea House in the knock-out round.
The result effectively cleared any doubts of Fu Zhou Shiyyi Association’s being toppled from second spot, leaving immediate rivals Pegasus to fight for third place in the group.
Fu Zhou Shiyyi Association, who avoided defending champions and already-qualified Easyway in the quarterfinals, condemned Fateh, who needed a win to stay alive for a qualifying berth, to a third loss in the competition.
The sheer brilliance of Lim Liang Wei led the charge in an absorbing tie with a game-high of 41 points, reminiscent of his personal 44-point tally in their opening match loss to TK Tea House.
His teammate Ahmad Termizi Haji Noordeen also recorded double digits with 16 points, mostly coming from an assortment of free throws to get his team over the line.
The team’s reward in reaching the next round is a meeting with the runners-up of Group ‘C’- yet to be decided – next Sunday.
Earlier this week, TK Tea House confirmed their position as Group ‘B’ winners after completing their group with a perfect record.
TK Teahouse, who finished runners-up in the previous edition last year, will face the third-placed team in Group ‘A’ next Saturday.
