UnikLearn, in collaboration with Superfish Growers, introduced the locally-grown muskmelons at a mini launch at Urban Market, Sunway Centre yesterday.
An-Nur Harapan Chairman Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit, and spouse, Rinawaty binti Abdullah @ Suzanne Rahaman Aeby attended the event.
The UNIK Melons reached a successful harvest early this month and are a testament to the hard work, dedication, commitment and love that UnikLearn growers put in every day. The melons were grown in a greenhouse within the An-Nur Harapan centre premises in Jalan Kebangsaan.
UnikLearn trainees were supervised by Superfish Growers, from sowing the seeds to quality control, cleaning and maintenance of the greenhouse, until final harvest.
“We were excited to introduce the agropreneurship initiative with UnikLearn. The trainees can finally see the fruits of their labour. The final result is the UNIK Melons which are on par with muskmelons on the market with great flavour, texture and nutritional value,” Superfish Growers Head of Business Development Hazel Lim said.
An-Nur Harapan General Manager Melline Jaini, meanwhile, said, “We’re happy with the outcome, not just in the aspect of growing the fruits, but the fact that we can share with the community that our trainees, regardless of their condition or situation, are just as capable in farming and other skills when given the chance and the right guidance.”
Proceeds from sales of the UNIK Melons will go directly to UnikLearn, which is a vocational training and internship programme managed by An-Nur Harapan.
