In today’s Friday sermon, the importance of gratitude for the blessings provided by Allah the Almighty, including the convenience of public infrastructure such as roads, was highlighted. Roads, established by the government, are vital for connecting people and enabling smooth travel.
Regulations and laws have been put in place to ensure roads remain safe and accessible for both motorists and pedestrians. These measures aim to provide safety and comfort for all road users. Despite these precautions, road accidents persist, often due to distractions such as mobile phone use, fatigue, or emotional disturbances like anxiety and anger.
The sermon reminded drivers to maintain focus and vigilance to ensure not only their safety but also that of others on the road. Such attentiveness is vital to reducing road accidents.
The sermon further emphasised that the formulation and enforcement of traffic regulations align with Islamic principles, as they aim to protect public welfare. These laws are in line with the objectives of syariah (maqasid al-syariah), which focus on preserving religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property. Thus, adhering to traffic laws is seen as an effort to protect human lives and property, preventing bodily harm and loss.
The principle of Al-Darar Yaza, meaning “harm must be eliminated,” underlines the necessity of removing potential dangers. Following road regulations is part of these preventive measures.
Besides adhering to traffic laws, Islam teaches the importance of prayers and supplications for protection and safety. Reciting Quranic verses and supplications can serve as a shield against harm and unforeseen calamities.
The sermon concluded by urging the public to exercise caution and avoid negligence that could endanger themselves and others. Drivers were encouraged to be courteous, follow road rules, and show respect to fellow motorists. – IZAH AZAHARI
