French film festival invites cultural exploration

Alliance Française de Brunei Darussalam (AFBD) is once again holding its French Film Festival 2023 as part of the Brunei December Festival.

The film festival at the One Cineplex in One City Shopping Centre, open to the public, comes to a close today.

This year, a selection of French films of different genres subtitled in English are being screened.

The festival opened with Delicious (Delicieux) yesterday: a comedy and a visual ode to French cuisine set in the 18th Century just prior to the Revolution.

Two movies are being screened today. The Velvet Queen (La panthère des neiges) is a 2021 documentary film following adventurer and novelist Sylvain Tesson and world renowned wildlife photographer Vincent Munier as they attempt to find a snow leopard in the high altitude wilderness of Tibet. The film won the best documentary award at the Festival de Cannes.

Meanwhile, Just A Breath Away (Dans la brume) is a thriller film in which Paris is shaken by an earthquake that unleashes a toxic gas from underground.

“Cinema is an important part of the French culture traditionally considered an art, and we are delighted to again offer the French Film Festival to Brunei film enthusiasts,” said Alliance Française de Brunei Darussalam President Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah.

The event, supported by the French Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and sponsored by TotalEnergies EP (Brunei) BV and Baiduri Bank, aims to celebrate French films and experience masterpieces of French cinema as well as contemporary films.
