Myanmar nationals who completed their employment contract in Brunei, left the country yesterday on board a Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) flight BI873 to Kuala Lumpur. They will leave for Yangon today via a relief flight of Myanmar Airways International, arranged by the Myanmar government.

This is the fourth batch of Myanmar workers stranded in the Sultanate after their employment contract ended. This batch was able to return to their homeland following close coordination between the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Myanmar Embassies in Kuala Lumpur and Bandar Seri Begawan.

Ambassador of Myanmar to Brunei Darussalam U Htin Lynn and embassy officials were present to bid farewell.

The Myanmar nationals received face masks, hand sanitisers and food items.

U Thin Lynn also expressed his gratitude to the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the Myanmar workers’ extended stay in the country due to the pandemic which saw international travel delays.
