Brunei Darussalam’s wushu team collected four gold medals on the first day of the 1st China-ASEAN Wushu Championship at Nantong University’s gymnasium in China.
Brunei’s 14-year-old wushu athlete Wan Xin Lim won the gold medal in women’s Nandao.
Meanwhile, the youngest wushu athlete from Brunei, nine-year-old Hannah Tan Zi Lin won the gold medal in women’s Changquan, while Samuel Yong Jun Ong collected his first gold medal of the competition in the men’s Tai Chi event and Lim Mae Qi claimed the gold medal in women’s Nandao.
National wushu coaches Zhao Chunjie and Li Hui were satisfied with the performance of the athletes. Coach Li Hui said, “This is the first time the young players have competed abroad. We hope that they can gain experience in the competition, learn from each other and accumulate valuable experience for future competitions.”
The competition was co-hosted by the China-ASEAN Wushu Federation, the General Administration of Sport of China’s Wushu Sports Management Center, and the Chinese Wushu Association, with the Nantong municipal people’s government as the organiser. – James Kon
