The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Special Investigation Unit, operating under the Criminal Investigation Department, apprehended four individuals suspected of being involved in a gang robbery at Kampong Sungai Hanching, Brunei-Muara District.
The July 3 incident, involved a foreigner who had initiated a buy-and-sell transaction through Facebook. The meeting was arranged at the victim’s residence with an unknown individual intending to sell a mobile phone.
Upon reaching the victim’s residence, three others arrived, presumed to be associated with the mobile phone seller. The negotiation for the mobile phone purchase fell through when the victim found technical faults with the device. The victim was then struck on the back of the head with an object by an individual, where the victim lost consciousness.
Upon regaining consciousness, the victim discovered some amount of cash missing along with a mobile phone believed to be stolen while the victim was unconscious.
A complaint was lodged at Berakas Police Station, leading to a probe. The Special Investigation Unit tracked the four suspects leading to their arrest. Among the detained were three local men and a female permanent resident, aged between 21 and 44, who are being investigated. The case is being examined under Section 324, Chapter 22 of the Criminal Procedure Code, pertaining to intentionally causing harm with a dangerous weapon or object, as well as Section 378, dealing with theft, and Section 411, which addresses the dishonest receiving of stolen property under the Chapter 22 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
RBPF reminded the public to be cautious and prioritise safety when engaging in the selling and purchasing through social media platforms to avoid from falling into potential traps. – James Kon
