Forum underlines Brunei-China friendship

The Brunei History Centre, in collaboration with the Embassy of China and the Brunei-China Friendship Association, organised a Brunei Sultanate History Forum at the centre yesterday to reflect on the historical friendship between Brunei and China.

The forum, presented by the centre’s principal, Dr Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong, shared insights into the long-standing friendship between the Sultanate and China as documented in Chinese historical records.

He shared that the friendship between the two countries has continued to this day, particularly in economics, socio-cultural exchanges, and diplomacy.

The forum also highlighted the pinnacle of the friendship through diplomatic relations established between the two countries since September 30, 1991.

Meanwhile, China-ASEAN Association President Gu Xiulian and Chinese Ambassador-designate to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo were among those in attendance, with Brunei-China Friendship Association Chairman Dr Muhammad Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman providing translations.

The forum’s objective was to provide an exposition on the history and culture of the Sultanate, disseminate historical facts and strengthen friendship between Brunei and China. – Adib Noor
