Forum shines spotlight on men’s health

The Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre, through The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), held a forum on ‘Navigating Men’s Health and Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Strategy for Diagnosis, Treatment and Survivorship’ at the Panaga Club yesterday.

The forum aimed to provide a platform for open discussion, foster awareness and provide insights surrounding the issues faced by men in the realm of health, in particular focusing on cancer.

Among the highlights were discussions on the development of cancer research, early detection and treatment options, recognising the societal stigma and stereotypes surrounding masculinity and mental health, as well as the benefits of regular physical activity on men’s well-being.

The forum also saw a dialogue session which included TBCC Consultant Medical Oncologist Dr Raden Mas Jeffri bin Raden Mas Ismail who highlighted the various types of cancer affecting men.

Head of the Nuclear Medicine Department of TBCC Dr Hamid Naseer discussed medical procedures used to identify and curb the effects of cancer and Jab Gym fitness trainer Jonathan Ooi delivered a talk on finding opportunities and maintaining a routine to keep fit, while clinical psychologist from the Ministry of Health Mohamad Danial Azizi bin Haji Mahadi discussed mental health.

The forum proceeded with a joint discussion with the presenters moderated by Nadzri Harif from KRISTALfm, with the discussion joined by a cancer warrior Muhammad Kamarredzwan Kamarudin who shared his experience and journey of fighting cancer from diagnosis to treatment and survivorship.
