The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) recently organised a Tamu Bahasa in conjunction with Language Month live streamed on Zoom and Facebook.
A total of 68 online participants attended the live stream focusing on clarifying fundamental studies of the Lanang Beladu Lanang book, particularly in terms of grammatical categories (word classes) with syntactic functions and semantic roles. This was achieved by examining specific lexical units and obtaining unique bound morphemes of Brunei Malay. DBP Acting Deputy Director Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak chaired the event and a presentation titled ‘Kategori Gramatikal, Fungsi Sintaktis, dan Peran Semantis Satuan Leksikal Khas Melayu Brunei dalam Lanang Beladu Lanang’ was delivered by Universitas of Putra Indonesia in Cianjur Dr Fauzi Syamsuar.
Among the objectives of Tamu Bahasa was to garner support and involvement to disseminate knowledge and strengthen the Malay language as the official language of the country and to promote Jawi script as part of the Malay language’s identity.
