A delegation of 33 women and two men from Brunei Darussalam attended the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Women Power Up Convention on Saturday.
The hybrid convention, attended by over 100 participants virtually and physically from ASEAN member countries and Timor Leste, aimed to empower women to raise issues on inequality at the workplace and how they are being dealt with.
The convention hoped to inspire other women struggling with these issues to speak up and take action for a more equitable workplace.
Topics raised during the convention included challenges and privileges of being a women in Brunei, women and men in the workplace as well as women working in a male-dominated industry.
Participants also discussed how different communities perceive women depending on their religion, race, and age. They also discussed barriers that women face to hold leadership positions in the workplace.
