Former students walk down memory lane at reunion

Former students of Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (MSPSBS) joined a reunion recently at the Tarindak D’Polo, royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong to mark the school’s 45th anniversary.

The attendees comprised students from the first ever batch in 1978 until the fifth batch in 1982.

Co-chairperson of the organising committee Hajah Zaiton binti Haji Mohsin, in her welcoming remarks, said the event was the first reunion organised involving the five batches as well as teachers who had taught at the college up until 1986 since its inception.

Being a former teacher herself, Hajah Zaiton said she took pride in learning about the success of the students following their graduation from the college, both in public and private sectors, with some even holding high-ranking positions in the government.

She said MSPSBS’ history can be traced back to 1966, when it was the first Malay-launguage secondary school – Sekolah Menengah Melayu Pertama. Later, it was renamed Maktab Melayu Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan before it was again renamed to Maktab Melayu Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, or Sekolah Sains.

In the mid-80s, the school’s status was raised to that of a college with the inclusion of sixth form education, thus being renamed Paduka Seri Begawan Science College.

The reunion saw a cake being cut to mark the college’s 45th anniversary, coupled with a series of live performances and a lucky draw. – Lyna Mohamad
