Close to 100 former Radio Television Brunei (RTB) personnel who have retired in the past three decades or transferred to other government departments gathered for Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at Higher Hotel in Kiulap yesterday.
The celebration also saw the launch of a giant poster as well as the recitation of Tahlil for former media personnel who have passed away.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by co-chairperson of the event, Zainal bin Tinggal, who also touched on the issue of breaking away from governmental support among retirees in a speech.
He noted that the path to independence should be strategised from the first day of joining the civil service and called for the need to create a culture of independence to move the citizenry towards greater self-sufficiency.
He also said RTB being one of Asia’s news institutions and the driving force for ABU News Exchange and ASEAN News Exchange can be attributed to the efforts of all its personnel.
He believes the former personnel are pioneers paved the path for new personnel to work more comfortably as the early days of television news were filled with challenges.
The Ex-RTB News Personnel Alumni is an informal virtual group comprising former RTB news personnel planning ad-hoc social activities for the group.
