Foreigner jailed eight months for pimping out countrywomen

Magistrate Abdul ‘Azim bin Othman on Thursday sentenced 35-year-old Vietnamese national Nguyen Van Huy to eight months’ jail for pimping out his fellow countrywomen.

The defendant pleaded guilty and admitted to the prosecution’s facts of the case.

It was revealed that on March 9 at about 10.58am, police personnel from the Anti Vice Unit arrested the defendant at the Sempadan Labu Immigration Control Post for suspected immoral activities.

Investigations unearthed that the defendant had arrived in Brunei on February 26 on a social visit pass.

When he first arrived the defendant stayed at a service apartment but later moved to another accommodation. While in Brunei, the defendant was recruited by a fellow Vietnamese man to work as a pimp.

The defendant would find customers through social media and charge customers between BND100 to BND200 for the services.

According to the defendant, he received between BND550 to BND600 a month in salary paid into his account in Vietnam. Investigations also revealed that the defendant’s sole income came from pimping activities.

During the inspection at the accommodation, items relating to prostitution were seized along with just over BND1,000 and VND30,000 in banknotes. – Fadley Faisal
