A 29-year-old foreign national was ordered to settle a BND10,000 fines after pleading guilty in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to possessing smuggled goods.
Indonesian Saiful Vristanto would have to serve 10 months in jail if he fails to settle the fine.
He was found by customs preventive officers possessing nine packets of cigarettes and a vape at a house in Kampong Mumong, close to midnight on March 28.
Officers also discovered 11 packets of cigarettes which the defendant kept at a house in Jalan Kerma Negara, Kuala Belait, according to the customs prosecutor. Customs officers confirmed the items were contraband.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid issued a forfeiture order on the seized items. – Fadley Faisal
