Brunei Darussalam will not be sending its national football squad to the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Cambodia after failing to meet the criteria set by the secretariat for the national assessment and selection committee.
Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud said, “The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) applied for participation in the Cambodian SEA Games but after an assessment by the secretariat, it was found that the football team is not ready. Therefore, Brunei will not compete in football in the SEA Games this year.
“Other sport teams applying for participation in the SEA Games need to meet certain criteria too. There are assessments to be completed to be able to compete in the SEA Games.”
