Head of Science, Technology and Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre Hajah Suriani binti Haji Noor Hashim yesterday elaborated on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) as an approach to teaching and learning.
She said this in her welcoming speech when the Ministry of Education (MoE) through the STEP Centre organised the Socialisation of STEP Centre’s Programmes 2025 at Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre yesterday.
Fifty-two school leaders and representatives from primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and sixth form centres with Cluster 3 of the MoE attended the briefing session.
The event proceeded with a sharing session on the services provided by the STEP Centre, including STEAM programmes and Green Initiatives, as well as their relevance to programmes offered at the national, regional, and international levels.
The session also included the announcement and presentation of certificates to the recipients of the STEAM Active School 2024 recognition, officiated by the Head of the STEP Centre. The recognition was awarded to schools that actively participated in programmes organised by the STEP Centre in 2023 and 2024.
The recipients for Cluster 3 in the Primary School category were Pulaie Primary School while Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (MSPSBS) received the award in the Secondary School and Sixth Form Centre category.
School leaders also engaged in face-to-face discussions with focal officers for the programmes offered by the STEP Centre.
The discussions aimed at providing a deeper understanding of the content and importance of the STEAM programmes and Green Initiatives. The STEP Centre Programme Briefing 2025 also aims to foster trust and strengthen collaboration between the STEP Centre and school leaders.
The initiative is also intended to raise awareness, expand participation and encourage active engagement from schools in the services and programmes provided by the STEP Centre, ensuring their effective and sustainable implementation at the school level in the long term.
The session will also be delivered to school leaders and representatives from all clusters under the MoE and will be conducted according to the scheduled dates. – James Kon
