Residents and citizens from the Tutong District rejoiced to greet His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for His Majesty’s 78th birthday celebration during the get-together ceremony yesterday.
Ahmad Nuruz Dzikriyy @ Ramadani bin Abu Hasrah from Tanjong Maya Secondary School, one of the many students who lined up the roadside, said in an interview, “This is my fourth time joining a flag-waving event to welcome His Majesty. I feel honoured and proud to be part of the huge celebration every year.”
He added, “There are about 320 students from Tanjong Maya Secondary School taking part in this year’s flag waving and we were well taken care of. We had a good breakfast before arriving at the venue and we will have another meal after the event.”
Meanwhile, Nur’azmatun Rafissah binti Jamidi and Nur Adriana Zawanah binti Haji Azrini from Mahad Islam Brunei, who volunteered as first aiders as part of Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) cadets, said, “We are here to assist anyone with health issues like fainting or dehydration.
“This is our second year participating since becoming BRC cadets, and we are always happy to help others when needed as it’s been our ambition to be a nurse.”
In conveying their birthday greeting to His Majesty, they said, “We wish His Majesty continued good health and blessings to carry on ruling the country with wise leadership.”
A group of Taiwan interns from Golden Corporation – Chiu Cheng Ming, Yang Yu Lin, Wang Juan Wei, Kuo Mei Hui, Jian Yin Zhen and Chou Pei Ting – were also at the ceremony to greet His Majesty and the royal family.
They had also witnessed the grand parade at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien on July 15.
In an interview, the group shared, “We are here for a two-month internship and we wanted to take the rare opportunity to meet and greet His Majesty in the get-together ceremony. We arrived here at 7.30am.”
They added, “We are students from schools and universities in Taiwan and it’s actually our first visit to Brunei. We feel that Brunei is a very peaceful and friendly country.
“We love Kampong Ayer, and we got to see some monkeys during a tour.” – James Kon
