Five Bangladeshi nationals were recently prosecuted in court for immigration offences following enforcement operations under Operasi Kabat 116 and 121 conducted by the Immigration and National Registration Department.
Four had committed an offence under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17, for overstaying in the country after the immigration passes had expired. Dalim, 37, was sentenced to four months in prison starting from his remand date on October 30 and three strokes of the cane.
Another Bangladeshi national, Tarikul Islam, 34, received a jail term of six months and three strokes of the cane while 44-year-old Nur Islam was sentenced to eight months in prison and three strokes of the cane. Md Nur Nobi, 41, was sentenced to four months in prison and three strokes of the cane, effective October 30.
Meanwhile, Md Rafiqul Islam, 30, committed an offence under Chapter 55(1)(d) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17 which is providing shelter to the immigration offenders. He was sentenced to a fine of BND3,000 or three months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
