Five individuals comprising three Dusun and two Chinese individuals embraced the Islamic faith in a ceremony at the Belait District Islamic Da’wah Centre yesterday.
The ceremony began with husband and wife, Munan bin Lupa, 72 and Liat binti Belanda, 68, of Dusun ethnicity embracing the Islamic faith. They are now known as Muhammad Hasnan bin Abdullah Lupa and Siti Salmah binti Abdullah Belanda.
Meanwhile, Sairein bin Serungi, a 24-year-old of Dusun ethnicity also recited the Syahadah and embraced his new Muslim name Muhammad Sairein bin Serungi.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old woman of Chinese ethnicity Chong Shau Eng also embraced the Islamic faith with her eight-year-old son, Ray Chong Yu Heng. They are now known as Nur Fabeha binti Chong and Muhammad Fahmi bin Abdullah.
The guest of honour, Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad, sprinkled bunga rampai and presented gifts to the new converts.
The Belait District Islamic Da’wah Centre noted that 18 individuals have embraced the Islamic faith since the start of the year. – Daniel Lim
