Five detained for possession of contraband

Four citizens and one permanent resident have been detained by the Law Enforcement Division of Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) in four separate operations recently for possessing contraband. 

A 37-year-old local man and a 39-year-old female permanent resident were detained during an operation on July 6 at Kampong Salambigar for alleged possession of contraband comprising 12 cartons of cigarettes and 14 types of vape devices and accessories, along with BND1,618 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sales of contraband. 

A 39-year-old local man was detained in an operation on July 7 at Kampong Anggerek Desa for the possession of contraband comprising 23 cartons, 11 packets and seven sticks of cigarettes, along with BND708 in cash. 

Meanwhile, during an operation on July 8 at Kampong Sungai Besar, a 37-year-old local man was detained for the possession of 24 bottles of alcohol and 18 sticks of cigarettes as well as 12 kilogrammes (kg) of chicken tails, 20kg of chicken wings and 92.8kg of beef lung without a proper halal permit.

A vehicle, believed to be used for smuggling activities was also seized. 

In another operation on July 9 at Lorong 3 Selatan in Seria, a house was raided and a 41-year-old local man was detained. Enforcement officials found 29 cartons, two packets and one stick of cigarettes during the raid. 

All the seized items and suspects were brought to the agency for further investigation.
