A local involved in ‘fishy business’ was sentenced to a year’s jail yesterday after he pleaded guilty to stealing seabass from his employer.
Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni took a starting point of 18 months’ jail, but reduced it to a year after giving weight to 23-year-old Mohammad Hafizan bin Apizal’s guilty plea at the first opportunity.
Prosecutor Syazwani binti Jumat revealed that the defendant sold the seabass for personal gain, adding that Mohammad Hafizan was just over a week into the job as a labourer on May 13.
