The first meeting of the Executive Committee of the 40th National Day celebration of Brunei Darussalam in 2024 was held yesterday at Digadong Hall of the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports building.
The meeting was jointly chaired by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad; Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman; Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman; and representatives of the co-chairpersons.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi said the celebration will hold special importance for the Sultanate.
He said, “It is fitting that we celebrate it with greater grandeur and splendour. This is one of the reasons why the appointments of co-chairpersons and members of the Executive Committee differ from previous years. This approach will help realise a unified national strategy in planning and preparing for the 40th National Day celebration, ensuring its smooth execution.”
He added, “What is also hoped for is a significant increase in participation, especially by students and youth, to infuse a sense of patriotism and loyalty within the younger generation.
“It will provide them with an opportunity to be a part of history, creating memories and pride. This invitation is extended not only to those in the public sector but also to the private sector, including those in creative arts, as a symbol of gratitude for the peaceful, prosperous, and harmonious life we enjoy.”
The meeting focused on progress reports and proposals related to ongoing preparations, proposed dates and venues, logo and theme suggestions, as well as schedules for the main events and associated activities of the celebration.
The meeting also discussed the procedures and crowd management for the grand assembly, Doa Kesyukuran ceremony, national cycling event, the 40 times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, and other related activities. – Adib Noor
