ANN/THE NATION – A fire broke out at an impound lot behind the Customs checkpoint at the 2nd Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Tak province’s Mae Sot district, damaging more than 300 vehicles.
Mae Sot police received an alert about the fire at around 7.30pm and swiftly dispatched officers to the scene. By the time they arrived, the blaze had already spread across the open-air lot, which was enclosed by metal fencing. The intense flames ignited fuel tanks, triggering a series of explosions as the fire engulfed the parked vehicles.
Firefighters from Mae Sot and nearby districts were deployed to battle the inferno, with several fire trucks working for over two hours to bring it under control.
Of the approximately 1,000 vehicles stored in the lot, more than 300 were severely damaged. According to a customs official, the affected vehicles were used cars imported from Japan, intended for export to Myanmar.
